NTRP Rating Verbal Description and League Comments

1.5 - 2.0 You describe yourself as a beginner. You do know how to serve and return volleys but you haven’t built any game consistency. You have figured how to keep track of score. You basically enjoy the game and desire to meet up with other people who have the same passion.
Admin Comments: Recreational skill level, About 5% of the tennis tennis players are in this level. You’re a beginner. We’d like all Beginner’s to participate in the Partner Program until they get sufficient experience to take part in the tennis seasons.

2.5 Requires on-tennis court experience. Has stroke weaknesses but is familiar with standard positions for singles and doubles play. 2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although tennis tennis court coverage is weak. Can keep a little rally of slow pace with other tennis tennis players of the same ability.

3.0 Somewhat consistent when making mid-paced strokes, but isn’t comfortable with all strokes and misses execution when seeking for guiding control, depth or power. Most common doubles formation is one-up and one-back.

3.25 You’re in-between 3.0 and 3.5 Tennis Skill ranking.
Admin Comments: Comp2 Level, This division shows up when the program’s league is large enough and we have sufficient returning tennis players. The inclusion of this level allows the program to fine tune the skill levels and the matches incline to be closer. Playoff qualifiers participate in the Competitive playoffs.

3.5 Has achieved improved stroke reliability with directing control on light shots, but still misses depth and variety. Starting to display more competitive net play, has improved tennis court coverage.

3.75 You’re in-between 3.5 and 4.0 Skill rating.

4.0 Has sure tennis strokes, including directing control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on average strokes, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach tennis shots and volleys with some success. Occasionally pulls errors when serving.

4.5 Masters the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has good footwork, can control depth of tennis shots and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to over hit on difficult strokes.
Admin Comments: Elite skill level, About 5% of the players are in this division. Most players need to earn their way into this skill level or have proof of 4.5 rating.
